Tad Williams asked today on FB (paraphased) Can’t we just have political arguments while being kind human beings to each other? It’s a fair point, and healthy, and it’s good to not live in a bubble, and it totally resonated.
But, no, I just…
The best way for me to be mentally healthy is to not discuss politics or that wiener-head or your new hero (take your pick)
I’m not avoiding the topic. I read BBC and NPR and check Christian Science Monitor and some NY Times articles. I keep up on what folks are saying online, too. I just don’t say as much.
Certainly in person I’m saying very little except to dear Hubcap, when I can get a word in edgewise between his dissertations on Jayhawks Basketball and snowmobiling (tee hee).
I also do reserve the right to still make fun of stupid shit politicians do. (The Democrats really need to step up! Don’t they know dumb is the new black in DC? They’re downright stodgy and boring.)
But know this: I’ll be stepping out of most conversations in person, and if the topic comes up as an aside online, I’ll likely delete comments or the whole post.
Also, I’m spending A LOT of time on Instagramlately and it’s fun. You might be able to catch me around there more often.
