Yesterday I read a tweet about how some “mentor” told writers that they should never go to therapy because without their issues their creativity would dry up.
Fuck that bullshit. Fuck that bullshit right now.
You don’t need to suffer for your art, not like that. It should not take a toll on your health. Last post I wrote about a shoulder injury I worsened because I typed so damn much. That was stupid of me. I should have realized I would severely aggravate my repetitive motion injury. It’s just as dumb to believe that mental illness is some magical well of creativity. The “crazy writer” or “crazy artist” is a persistent stereotype perpetrated by lazy people who seek validation in mocking creatives and their value to society.
Look, problematic universal advice aside, if you have mental health issues please, for the love of Christ, seek help and don’t suffer. I promise your art will still be there on the other side of that journey.
